1 month old

Well, I've survived one month of being a mom of four! I'm a bit behind on blogging, but I have somehow managed to keep it all together while entertaining the kids during their last few weeks of summer and throwing birthday parties (I will do a birthday post later) for all three kiddos. Poor Lathen has been hauled around like a baby kangaroo attached in his pouch(baby sling) to all of our various activities! He has been such a good a baby taking it all in stride. He rarely gets fussy unless he is hungry or sleepy and has even been sleeping 5/6 hour stretches the last few nights. It has been such a change from my other high need babies who never slept more than 2 hours at a time. He is definently my calm fourth child! Thank goodness!!!!!!

3 days old

1 week old

So tiny and skinny.

Fourth of July at my moms. Lathen was 1 week old, but we couldn't miss any of the Fourth festivities! The kids had so much fun hanging out with cousins and swimming!

2 weeks old
Lucy finally sat by him and acknowledged him a few times but she still wanted nothing to do with him.
First real bath after his umbilical cord fell off.
Hanging out in his baby sling on mama!
Hanging out at the pool. Even though I couldn't get in the pool water yet and Lathen was only a few weeks old, the kids were dying to go back to the swimming pool, so Lathen and I sat under the pavilion several times a week and took the kids swimming.
3 and 4 weeks oldHe loves sucking his two middle fingers!
Visiting his new cousin James. I think Lathen was 3 weeks old and James was 3 or 4 days old. James is Blaine's brother Darren and his wife Katie's new baby.
He is starting to hold up his head a little bit when on his tummy.

He has chunked up and lost his hair on top. He looks like a little old bald man.

Last but not least a silly pic of Miss Priss. While the boys and I were washing the car Lucy got bored and decided to take a bath in the soapy water!

Bring on the chaos!

No pics this time, just words that I had to write down to remember the crazy week I had last week. :)

After a calm and almost blissful 5 days of baby Lathen being home, my mom left, Blaine went back to work and I began the journey as a mom of four.

The week started out uneventful and I thought okay I got this, seriously being a mom of four is not so bad! Then life decided to break me in and throw a few curveballs my way. ;)

It all started with the simultaneous throwing up of my 1 year old and my 5 year old at 2 o'clock in the morning. Blaine woke to Lucy gagging in her crib and went to pick her up not realizing she was going to throw up. She then proceeds to throw up all over Blaine and the carpet. As Blaine runs her to the bathroom she leaves a trail of throw up down the hall and across the bathroom floor. I then wake to Blaine screaming my name and fly out of bed to be greeted at my bedroom door with the pungent odor of vomit. At that precise moment Carter sprints into the bathroom skidding right through Lucy's throw up and vomits in the toilet. Blaine and I literally just stared at each other in complete shock for several minutes trying to decide what to clean first. Finally we went into parent mode and spent the next two hours bathing kids and ourselves, cleaning floors, scrubbing carpets and washing sheets. Just as my head hit the pillow at 4 a.m. little man woke up ready to eat.

A few days later I started feeling achy and felt like I was getting mastitis but thought I could head it off by taking some medicine and pumping in the shower. After my shower I felt better and the boys had been begging to go to the library so I agreed and we headed out. Again, the first hour at the library went great and I thought okay I got this, seriously being a mom of four is not so bad! Lol! :) You think I would have learned my lesson. Then as we got ready to go the boys needed to go to the bathroom. As Cooper and Carter went through the mens bathroom door Lucy realized she couldn't go in and thought they were leaving her and started screaming at the top of her lungs. As I tried to calm her and pull her away from the door she got louder and started kicking trying to get away from me. The whole library was now looking in my direction. Then as Lucys screaming reached glass breaking octaves the story time lady runs out of story time and proceeds to question me as to who I was, whos children I had and why she was screaming. Finally Cooper and Carter come out of the bathroom and Lucy automatically cuts the screaming off and runs to her brothers and gives them a big hug. Only then did the story time lady back down and decide I was really her mom and all was well. But as she walked away she made the remark "well at least you know if someone tries to take her she knows how to scream". I guess she thought I was trying to abduct my own children! Lol! Anyway, we checked out our books and headed out as fast as possible. I don't know if it was the stress of what had just happened but as soon as we got into the car I started shivering and my teeth started chattering. I knew it was the beginning of fever and it had probably turned into full blown mastitis. I barely made it home before I turned into an Eskimo with four blankets, sweatshirt and gloves. Seriously, I thought I was going to freeze to death. I just couldn't get warm. The poor kids thought I had gone mad since I was asking for more blankets and winter gloves in the middle of July! Turns out I was really burning up with a 103 temp, but I was too delirious to think straight. All I wanted to do was get warm. When Blaine finally got home from work around 9 o'clock that night he took one look at me and went back to his clinic to get me a shot of antibiotic. Finally, early the next morning the fever broke and the Advil/antibiotic kicked in.

I wish that is where the chaos ended, but as they say bad things come in threes. Two days later as I was cleaning out the fridge I laid a bowl of moldy grapes on the counter. I then continued to clean out the fridge. Next thing I know I see Carter grabbing a handful of the moldy grapes and popping them into his mouth. I couldn't get the words out soon enough. I started screaming and gagging and then when I told Carter what was wrong he started screaming and gagging. Meanwhile Lucy is screaming something from the bathroom, but I am too busy with Carter to take notice. After much panic and worry Blaine reassures Carter and me that Carter is fine. I finally calm down and sit on the bar stool to find my hand touching something squishy and stinky. That is when I realize what my hand was touching and why Lucy had been screaming from the bathroom. Lucy had decided to use the potty all by herself and had needed someone to clean her when done. When no one came to her help she jumped down and went on her way, wiping her naked bum wherever she went. Their was more gagging and screaming and then LOTS of cleaning and smelling trying to sniff out where she had put her nasty, little bum! :@

So there you have it, a week in the life of a mom of 4. It is not always glamorous or all smiles. It is messy and dirty and down right humorous! I can laugh now, but I wasn't laughing in the crazy moments described above. :) But it is beyond rewarding when I look into their little eyes and see how much they need and depend on me and I feel overwhelming love for them even with throw up all down my shirt!!!

Lathen Sean Britt

Baby #4 has came into our lives and we are completely in love! Lathen has been such a calm laid back baby and has not been phased at all by the crazy chaos of his three other siblings! Life is good and we are so blessed to have a healthy baby boy! Lathen decided to teach me patience and made his debut at 40 weeks right on his due date of June 26th (my other babies were early). He weighed in at 6.5 and was 18 in long. He is my smallest baby and I realize just how tiny he is when I dress him and change his diaper and look at his little arms/legs and tiny bum! :) He is a super nurser though and is making up for his tiny size by nursing every two hours on the dot. Welcome to the world sweet Lathen!

Here is his birth story in pics.
We checked into the hospital at 12:00 and after only about 3 and a half hours of natural labor and 3 pushes he was welcomed into the world! The most perfect, sweetest thing ever!

Scrunchy old man face!
My Doctor who literally ran from his clinic across the street to the hospital. He was out of breath and panting when he got to my room. I had warned him before hand that I didn't push very long and he had assured me that he would make it in time! :) He did indeed make it just in the nick of time, he ran in just as I was pushing for the first time.

First pic with mom and dad!
Mommy time!
Proud papa!
Ready for his first bath. Tiny fingers and toes!
He loved having the warm water running over his head!
All bundled up cozy and clean.
Sucking his two middle fingers.
Lathen was born with syndactyly (digits are fused together) of his two middle fingers on both hands. His is simple incomplete syndactyly, which means they are only fused together with soft tissue that does not go all the way up his fingers and each finger is completely formed seperately. We will have them separated when he is older.
Getting him ready for his siblings to visit.
Cooper and Carter were so excited to be big brothers again!
Lucy didn't want anything to do with baby Lathen. She has been super jealous and is having a hard time adjusting.
My first pic as a mom of 4! ;)
First family pic!
Ready to go home! So tiny in his big car seat.
